Claim

Submit your claim through our online portal, where it will be reviewed by our claims team. Once reviewed, we will contact you to confirm next steps (please note, we may ask you for more information or documentation). You can also use the portal to track the progress of your claim.

Motor Vehicle Accident Checklist

Stop Safely and Check for Injuries

  • Bring your motor vehicle immediately to a stop once it is safe
  • Switch off your engine and turn on your hazard warning lights
  • Check for injuries to yourself and others. Do not try to move any injured person(s). Remember to take all safety precautions

Report the Accident

  • Report the accident to our Accident Response Team at 421-2277 or 426-9500 and the Police at 211, if the situation requires but note the Police will determine if their presence is required
  • If there are serious injuries, you must call the Police
  • Do not admit liability

Exchange Contact Information and Note Registration Numbers

  • Exchange name, address, telephone numbers, and insurance information with the other driver(s) if possible
  • Note the registration numbers of all vehicles involved
  • If the other driver(s) is/are not the owner(s), obtain the owner's name, address, contact number and insurance information
  • If the situation is not amicable, await the arrival of the Accident Response Team and/or the Police

Take Photos and Get Additional Information

  • Take photos of the scene and get contact information for any eyewitnesses who are not passengers in your vehicle
  • Be sure to note the name and badge numbers of any Police, investigating authorities and other emergency personnel at the accident scene
  • Allow the Accident Response Team to assist with gathering photographic evidence and other relevant details. They will assist you with completing your claim form where the driver must provide and sign a statement of what happened
  • Remember to take reasonable steps to protect your damaged property from further loss

How to file a claim

1. Before you claim

Please notify the police if your claim is for the following:

  • Theft
  • Malicious and willful damage
  • Hit and run
  • If someone has been injured in the incident
  • Arson

2. When reporting your claim

Please have your policy number to hand. Please provide:

  • Information about the incident and when it happened
  • The police event number and the station the incident was reported to (if applicable)
  • Your vehicle registration number and details of any other vehicles or people involved
  • Details of any injuries

3. What we may ask for

  • Photographs of the damage
  • Estimates for repair
  • Copies of your driving licence
  • A copy of the police report (if applicable)
  • Contact details of any witnesses

4. What may happen next

Depending on the circumstances of your claim, the following may happen:

  • We will establish the market value of your vehicle.
  • If your vehicle is considered to be a total loss (write off), we will make payment to you, less your deductible and any amount agreed for salvage you retain.
  • If your car can be repaired, we will usually look to pay the garage directly. If so, once the repairs are complete, you will need to pay the garage your deductible (if applicable).
  • If another person is at fault, we will look to recover any costs. (including the deductible)
  • If you are considered to be at fault, we will liaise directly with the other party/parties involved.
